PhysioPups – vital functions testing since birth

PhenoPups designed an innovative and patented device to monitor vital functions in newborn mice and rats. It allows non-invasive and simultaneous recording of breathing, heart rate, ultrasonic vocalisations, body temperature and metabolism (O2 consumption). Four animals can be monitored simultaneously. Recording, storage and processing are fully automated (Matrot, Durand et al. 2005).

The PhysioPups device opens the way to high throughput screening of genetically engineered rodents since birth, and testing of drug effects on main functions development.

This technology has already proven to be pivotal for genetic models study during the neonatal period (Ramanantsoa, Vaubourg et al. 2006; Ramanantsoa, Vaubourg et al. 2007; Dubreuil, Ramanantsoa et al. 2008; Jamain, Radyushkin et al. 2008; Bollen, Bouslama et al. 2009; Favrais, van de Looij et al. 2011; Ramanantsoa, Hirsch et al. 2011; Ramanantsoa, Matrot et al. 2011).
